When using FBA, who assumes responsibility for inventory loss or damage within Amazon's fulfillment center?

When a seller utilizes Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA), Amazon assumes responsibility for inventory loss or damage that occurs while the inventory is within their possession and control within Amazon's fulfillment centers. This means that if a product is lost, damaged, or destroyed while stored in the fulfillment center, or during the picking, packing, and shipping process handled by Amazon, Amazon is liable for reimbursement to the seller. This reimbursement typically covers the cost of the product, calculated based on Amazon's valuation policies, minus any applicable fees or adjustments. The seller needs to file a claim with Amazon, providing documentation as required, to initiate the reimbursement process. Amazon's responsibility extends only to inventory that is properly received and documented within their FBA system; any discrepancies or issues arising before the inventory reaches the fulfillment center remain the seller's responsibility.
