On a uniform, featureless floor, every part of the image looks identical to every other part, creating a condition known as the aperture problem. Because there are no distinct points for the sensor to lock onto, the system cannot detect motion, leading to a loss of position hold and causing the drone to drift uncontrollably. Essentially, without contrast and pattern, the sensor cannot distinguish between a still floor and a moving drone, making feature tracking mathematically impossible.
