The course begins by exploring the basics of data communication, including the fundamental concepts of data transmission, encoding, and modulation. Students will learn about different types of signals and transmission media, such as twisted pair, coaxial cable, and fiber optic cables. Moving further, the course delves into the study of networking protocols and architectures. Students will be introduced to the OSI (Open Systems Interconnection) model and TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) suite. They will gain a deep understanding of the layers of the OSI model and the functions performed by each layer. Students will also learn about IP addressing, routing, and switching.
The course covers various types of data communication networks, including local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), and metropolitan area networks (MANs).
