Question

To manually set the exact color temperature in Kelvin for a video shot on your iPhone, which specific type of app must you use instead of the standard camera app?

Accepted Answer

To manually set the exact color temperature in Kelvin for a video shot on your iPhone, you must use a third-party professional video camera app instead of the standard camera app. The standard iPhone camera app automatically adjusts white balance, which is its process of attempting to neutralize colors in a scene, but it does not offer the user the ability to precisely dial in a specific color temperature value in Kelvin. Color temperature refers to the warmth or coolness of light, and it is measured in Kelvin (K). Lower Kelvin values, for example, around 2800K, indicate warmer, more orange light, similar to that from a traditional incandescent bulb. Higher Kelvin values, such as 5600K or 6500K, represent cooler, more blue light, like bright daylight or shade. Manually setting the color temperature means the user actively selects this specific Kelvin value, overriding any automatic adjustments to ensure consistent color rendition across different lighting conditions or to achieve a particular artistic look for the video. Third-party professional video camera apps provide these advanced manual controls, including dedicated sliders or input fields for white balance expressed in Kelvin, giving the user precise control over this crucial aspect of image capture.
