The key function of a level transmitter is to measure the level of a liquid or solid within a vessel or tank and convert that measurement into a signal that can be transmitted to a control system for monitoring and control. A level transmitter is a sensor that provides continuous measurement of the height of a substance. This measurement is crucial for maintaining stable process operations, preventing overflows or low-level conditions, and optimizing inventory management. Level transmitters use various technologies to measure the level, including hydrostatic pressure, differential pressure, radar, ultrasonic, capacitance, and guided wave radar. The transmitter then converts the measured level into an electrical signal, typically a 4-20 mA current signal or a digital communication signal, that can be read by a process controller or monitoring system. For example, a level transmitter in a crude oil storage tank sends a signal to a control system that automatically adjusts the inflow and outflow rates to maintain the desired level, preventing overfilling or running the tank dry.
