What is the purpose of using a 'borescope' during antenna maintenance, and what types of issues can it detect?

The purpose of using a borescope during antenna maintenance is to visually inspect internal components and hard-to-reach areas of the antenna without disassembling it. A borescope is a flexible or rigid tube with a camera and light source at its tip, allowing technicians to see inside the antenna and identify potential problems that would otherwise be hidden from view. With a borescope, technicians can detect issues such as water ingress (leaks), corrosion, insect infestation, loose connections, damaged internal cables or components, and any other foreign objects that may have entered the antenna. This allows for early detection of problems, enabling proactive maintenance and preventing more significant damage or performance degradation. For example, it allows for inspection of the inside of a radome for cracks without taking it down.
