How can you determine a diamond's clarity, and what are the different grades of diamond clarity?



Diamond clarity refers to the presence or absence of internal and external flaws, or inclusions and blemishes, within a diamond. These can occur naturally during the diamond's formation in the earth, or they can be caused by cutting and polishing. Diamond clarity is determined by examining the diamond under 10x magnification with a jeweler's loupe or microscope. The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) has established a standard grading system for diamond clarity that ranges from "Flawless" (no inclusions or blemishes visible under 10x magnification) to "Included" (inclusions and blemishes that are visible to the naked eye).
