What is the correct procedure if a steam leak is detected during a sterilization cycle?

If a steam leak is detected during a sterilization cycle, the immediate priority is the safety of personnel. The area around the sterilizer should be evacuated to prevent burns. The sterilizer cycle should be immediately aborted, if possible, using the emergency stop button or the control panel. Do not attempt to open the sterilizer door while steam is leaking. Once the sterilizer has cooled down and the steam pressure has been safely released, a qualified technician should be called to inspect and repair the leak. The sterilizer should not be used until the leak has been repaired and the sterilizer has been revalidated. Any load being sterilized during the cycle when the leak occurred should be considered non-sterile.
