For a suction pile foundation, how does the internal pressure difference between the seabed and the top of the pile create the vertical downward force required for structural stability?

A suction pile is a large, hollow steel cylinder closed at the top and open at the bottom, which is placed onto the seabed to anchor offshore structures. When the pile is positioned, the top of the cylinder is initially open to the water column, allowing it to sink into the soft seabed under its own weight. Once the pile has penetrated as far as its self-weight allows, the opening at the top is sealed.....
